Principally I made contact with Justin to help me with some goal setting for ambitions I have in rowing. Having suffered from a back injury in recent years I felt I needed a little support in areas involving the pursuit of my goals versus the rehabilitation and injury prevention I require to continue to perform.

Justin has been an invaluable part of my coaching team, helping me gain a deeper understanding of how I can develop and improve my approach to training and competition.

Sebastian has benefited enormously from his time working with Justin. Justin's approach is impressive - he is responsive to the individual child; insightful and sensitive; empowering and informative. HIs sessions have been well balanced between talking, listening and providing practical approaches. As a parent, sitting in on sessions, they have also been informative and enriching for me too!

Recently our son, Yujiro, had his first Focused Competitor meeting with Justin; this included an intensive discussion between Justin and Yujiro. Although Yujiro has had many tennis-based lessons with Justin over the years, this was the first time we looked at mental strategies.

Throughout the discussion, Justin identified many areas to improve Yujiro's mental strength. Furthermore, Justin provided lots of useful information for Yujiro's development. We really appreciated this Focused Competitor meeting and we feel as though this was a very helpful and useful experience for us.

Tennis training at a professional level looks equally at the technical, tactical, physical and mental aspects of the game. The mental side is what many parents and junior players report as being the most challenging aspect to support. With Justin's background in sports psychology, we felt that the Focused Competitor service would offer Felix some real help in this area.

The sessions are really well-managed and Felix is encouraged to examine his feelings at different points in matches. Justin then explains some strategies to try when those situations arise. It must be pointed out that consistent methods of mental control are aspects that even the pros struggle with. That said, I can say from experience that Felix has now developed a language to discuss these aspects and is beginning to understand how he can impose emotional control into his game. He has tried strategies which are starting to have an effect on his performance and, more importantly, on his enjoyment of the game.

This is a service which I feel is vital for any performance players looking to strengthen their mental approach.

Antonije can have emotional problems when it comes to playing tournaments. It appeared it was far more complex than the emotions involved with losing matches. During the first session of 1-1 with Antonije, Justin managed to dig out one episode surrounding a match Antonije played 4 or 5 years ago. That was something which had been haunting him for all these years. It was quite an impressive piece of 'mental surgery' to dig that out.

That is now leading to a solution that involves working through strategies to find the one that is the 'right fit' for me.
